Surfpop and Naked Difference
Surfpop has partnered with Naked to be part of their Naked Difference good causes. How does it work?
When choosing Naked as your insurance company, and your claims are low, premiums left over at the end of the year go to causes you care about, supporting positive change in South African communities, rather than growing insurance company profits. That is the Naked Difference model and it changes everything about insurance.
Now you can select Surfpop as your beneficiary! Head over to the Naked website to learn more!
Would you like to donate to Surfpop or become a Surfpop sponsor, just like Importers Coffee, and help us create better future opportunities for children from Masiphumelele township through a powerful formula of surfing, education and nutrition? ????Surfpop has a tax deductible status in South Africa, the Netherlands and Belgium, which means that as business or individual you can deduct your donation to Surfpop from your tax in these countries! How it works?

My name is Talea. I’m from Germany and I spent 7 weeks with Surfpop as a volunteer. To be honest, it was one of the best decisions I made to fly all the way to Cape Town and join the Surfpop Family. In those 7 weeks I met the nicest people and made memories I’ll never forget. To have the opportunity to work with the children was a blessing, because they are full of joy and good vibes. Even if you have a tough day, as soon as you see them you have a smile on your face and all the bad energy is gone. And it’s not just about teaching them, they also teach you about life. Surfpop has the perfect mixture of spending time with the children in the water and in the classroom, as well as exploring the city and improving your own surf skills. I woke up every morning with a big smile on my face, because the next day full of adventure had started. Thank you Céline & Bongi (Daniel, founder of Surfpop) for making these 7 weeks one of the best times I have had.
In March this year, we launched the #surfpopgirlchallenge: a call to all surf sisters and water women around the world to share their love for the ocean! We challenged them to introduce a sister to the ocean who could benefit from her healing powers.
The response from all over the world was incredible and our challenge got lots of following. Water women agreed that the ocean has powerful healing effects. The ocean makes them feel “free”, “the most happy human on earth”, “alive” and “powerful.”
At Surfpop, we have seen first hand how surfing can empower girls! Last year, 17 girls from the disadvantaged community of Masiphumelele Township in Cape Town, South Africa, joined Surfpop. How does the ocean and surfing make them feel? Free, happy and on top of the world!
We hope that the #surfpopgirlchallenge encouraged and still motivates many surf sisters and water women around the world to introduce more girls and women to the ocean.
Together, let’s continue to share the stoke #surfpopgirlpower!
Hi, my name is Larissa and I’m from Switzerland. I volunteered at Surfpop for one month in 2020. Surfpop is run with so much love and passion, which makes this project really unique. From the start, I felt very comfortable and looked forward to every new day. The time was unforgettable for me and went by much too fast. Through the surf lessons I was able to challenge myself and got very enthusiastic about this sport. The volunteer work with the kids in the classroom and the surf was great! Surfpop brings a lot of joy into their lives. I met a lot of great people and incredibly great kids at Surfpop and I am very happy to have been a part of this great community. I would definitely love to come back again.
Hi, my name is Anne and I am from the Netherlands. I volunteered with Surfpop in 2018 and I really enjoyed it! Surfing with the kids was always my favourite part of the day. But also the (surf)trips, English classes, the fundraiser and all other activities where such fun 🙂 I was suppose to volunteer for 1 month but I ended up staying 3 months! I was super happy to visit the project again 2020 and meet the new girls who joined the program. I am so happy that I spent my time in Muizenberg with Surfpop and I would recommend it to everyone who loves surfing – or would like to learn surfing!
